12 Things I will Miss about Katy

If you read this regularly, you probably know that we have moved to Friendswood where Howard will be serving as the Pastor of Discipleship at Friendswood United Methodist Church.  While we are excited about the opportunity, there is much about our time in Katy that we will miss.  So here are 12 things (among the many!) that we will miss about Katy.

  1. Great friends! – We made a number of life long friends while in Katy.  While we will stay in touch, we will miss seeing them regularly.
  2. Eureka Science – This great science program at Kilpatrick Elementary was a great way to be involved with the school and to have fun at the same time.  I hope I can help start something similar here in Friendswood.
  3. Ooh La La! – Cupcakes will never be the same.  These are the best cupcakes in the Houston area.
  4. Columbian Bakery – Next to the Goodwill at Mason & Kingsland.  Excellent breakfast and phenomenal cafe con leche!
  5. Marini’s Empanada House – The best empanadas in town.  Love their one filled with chicken mole!
  6. El Fresh Taco – good quality taqueria tacos without the feeling that you’re going into a foreign land.
  7. Fishing in Cinco Ranch – It’s all catch and release, but nothing beats seeing your kid land a fish (hint – use frozen hot dog bits)
  8. Katy Sunrise Rotary – A great group of early morning friends who do a lot for the community and the world!
  9. Dunn Bros Coffee – Fresh roasted coffee that is 1,000 times better than Starbucks and cheaper as well!
  10. La Centerra – Cute little shopping center that is host to some great community events
  11. Ritter’s Frozen Custard – If I had lived closer to this, I would weigh 300 pounds right now
  12. Lone Star Kolache – Their jalapeno sausage and cheese kolache is the best I’ve ever eaten.

Well, I left the Friendswood area (the whole state of Texas actually) and here is what I miss (maybe you’ll enjoy them for me):

Barcenas – Bay Area BLVD btwn Friendswood and Gulf Freeway – great & cheap Mexican, it’s not Gringos, but the people are so friendly.

Mornings Kolaches – or any kolache place actually, Utahns have never heard of them

Gringos – green sauce & chips and the fajita salad w/ amazon sauce, ’nuff said

Old League City – shopping and Tea Room

My parents – John & Carolyn Baxter

I can see how you’d miss you folks – I’ve just been here 2 weeks and I already love them!

I’ll have to check out Barcenas. Saw it yesterday and thought it might be worth a try.
