Bible Challenge Week 35

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they recognize his voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t recognize his voice.”

John 10:3-5

Sheepfolds are interesting things.  They were basically large rings with a stone wall with one opening where the shepherds would take turns keeping guard through the night.  In the morning each shepherd would stand outside of the sheepfold and call out his sheep and they would come to him.  And, even though there may be 4 or 5 different flocks mingled together, the sheep would only come to the voice of their shepherd.

If we feel lost in life it’s probably because we are listening to the voice of someone who isn’t our shepherd.  But God isn’t giving up on us.  He is still there, calling our name.  And if we are willing to follow, He will lead us to the abundant life that we were created to live.  We need only listen for His voice and follow Him.  We must run from the thief that is seeking to destroy us and return to the Shepherd who wants to save us.

God is calling you.  Are you listening?  Are you following?
