Be Amazed

Look at the nations and be amazed! Watch and be astounded at what I will do! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it. Habakkuk 1:5

Prayer – Catch Me at My Best

God,
I’m sitting here in a hotel in KC and I notice a card used to thank an employee for their good work. It says, “Catch me at my best.” Can you do the same, God? Can you catch me at my best? I want to give my best to you, but the way I am wired I can’t do it very long without feeling that you are pleased with me. I need to know that you are pleased with my service to you. Help me to be open to feeling that assurance.
I have no trouble feeling conviction. It sits heavy on my heart when I sin. But the assurance of your love…sometimes I feel that I get it caught up in my personal emotions and I miss it. I know it’s there, but either I mistake it as a human emotion (an emotional “must be something I ate”) or I just ignore it all together.
God, I don’t want your assurance so that I will be proud. I want it so I will be humble. Catch me at my best, Lord. And continue to show me how to live in You.
In the name of Christ I pray. Amen.

Prayer – Eyes

God, do my eyes please you? You say in Luke 11:34 that my eyes are the lamp of my body. Am I producing light? I want to please you Lord. I want your light to shine through me. Give me eyes that do that. Give me eyes that seek to share your grace and compassion. May I see those you love and seek to love them. Give me eyes that seek to tell truth. May I see sin and oppression and lovingly stand for justice and mercy. May my eyes tell the story of my love for you and my trust in your leading. Help me to be a witness with my eyes that the twinkle of your light may shine in my gaze. In Christ I pray. Amen.

Prayer for Understanding

God, why did you make bumblebees? Why are there mosquitos? Father, is there a reason for allergies? There is so much we don’t understand, Lord, and sometimes it is frustrating. We want to know all the answers, even though if you gave them to us we wouldn’t understand them. We are like little children asking our Father asking questions for which a simple answer won’t do and the full answer we just wouldn’t understand. All that is left is for us to trust. Father, help us to trust in you. Help us to have the faith to know that not only did you design this would, you remain as Lord. Give us the strength to relinquish control to you, knowing that you do have the answers and we do not. May our hearts rest easy knowing that You are Lord of all.
Strengthen us today, Lord. Help us to continue to desire to know more of you and more of your creation, but help us also to trust in you in those things we cannot understand. May our faith be a firm standard, a trust in a loving Father who always desires the best for us and the world. Grant us a heart for you, that in our relationship we may know your will. In Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
