Visting with History

Today I had a second visit with a 93 yr old former Lutheran pastor who is the father of a church member. He was born and raised in Hungary and lived through both world wars among other region wars before emmigrating to the United States with only his family and 5 spoons to his name. He went to seminary in Germany in 1941 – heard Hitler give a speech, knew Dietrich Bonhoeffer, had classes with Karl Bart. This is an amazing man. His son told me all of this about him, but hopefully he will get the strength to visit with me personally. It is an honor to be around a man that has been through so much and still has great faith in Christ.

Spiritual Diet

I’ve been mulling over for quite some time the idea of writing a diet book. No, not another Atkin’s clone, but a spiritual diet book. I think, for the most part, we have unhealthy spiritual diet. We spend most of our time and energy in doing things that, while they may make us feel better, don’t help us develop much spiritually. What’s worse is we have little concept of what is good for us spiritually. We trap ourselves into practices that we think are building us up, but only end up wearing us out. Then, of course, there is the lack of variety in our spiritual diet that makes everything seem boring.
I think our faith would be much better if we approached it with a balanced, varied diet approach. I’m not all certain what this diet would consist of, but I’m working on it.
Your thoughts?

Dancing Rat’s Pizza

Today I had the fortuitous opportunity to attend a 4 yr old birthday party at the famous “Chuck E. Cheeze.” Before I make my attempt at humor, I must admit it wasn’t as bad as I imagined it. It was fairly clean and bright, and the security measures were very comforting. What I want to know is…What happened to the band? Back in the 80′s Chuck was the lead singer for a band of rodent rockers. Now, like many bad 80′s bands, he has gone solo. To me, his music just doesn’t have the same power it did when I was 8. I wonder what the rest of the band is doing? I imagine it’s tough to find work as a washed up, mechanical, banjo-playing rat. Maybe there’s a chance at a reunion show.
